Another WIP -- green pinwheels quilt

THANK YOU so much for all the input on my Circle quilt! I think I have a plan now... but it requires a trip to a quilt shop, so it will have to wait for now... at least until after JellyBean's nap -- IF I'm brave enough to haul all the kids with me! :o)

I've got another one. I started this one (dare I say it?) about FIVE years ago. I had a plan to make monochromatic quilts -- one for every color. That plan didn't last long, ha ha! Anyway, I had all the pinwheels done and the rows sewn, then about six months ago I finished sewing the rows together. This is where I am now:

I am wondering -- tell me if I'm crazy -- if I should take out one of the pinwheels and replace it with either an orange or a red one. Would that be weird? I think it might make it more interesting! If it was a red one, it might turn it into a Christmas quilt...? I'm just not sure. And, if I did replace just one, which one would it be? Towards the bottom?

And then borders... at this point I am planning on a skinny muslin border and then a wider green border -- probably a more saturated green.

Any thoughts? I really do appreciate the help!

And, secretly, I am DYING to start on another quilt -- so I've REALLY got to get these two done! :o)

Oh no...not a trip to the quilt shop! :)

I love this green quilt (green is my favorite color!). I think it will be lovely as you describe with a narrow muslin frame and then a deep border of rich, saturated green.

As for the random pop of color? Orange, or even pink. AND - instead of replacing one of the blocks, why not just applique a cluster of three flowers in one corner, with BRIGHT yellow round centers and maybe a simple leaf behind the flowers? It's going to be so fantastic! There are enough Christmas quilts in the world already!

What do you do with all of your quilts? Do you display them in your home? Pile every bed deep with quilted love? Store them in a closet, opening the door every day to soak in the loveliness??

That is a lovely quilt top! I love the green and actually like Angela's idea of appliqueing (is that even a word?!?) a cluster of flowers in the corner! That would be neat. I wouldn't go with red. I love Christmas and all, but not as much as bright cheery, year-round kind of things! And I'd love to know too what you do with your quilts. I'm just starting to quilt (working on my first on now), and I just keep thinking if I make many more, I'll have to get rid of the previous ones or something. I just wouldn't know what to do with more......

You crack me up!! I have a pinwheel WIP that I am working on...and it's purple!!! So maybe I should through in a green one and you a purple!! I do like the idea of throwing in a different color one...it will be interesting! As to where...ask one of your children! They will pick the perfect spot!

I think an orange pinwheel towards the bottom right would be fantastic! I have no idea about a border but I am kind of leaning towards a crisp white border to make the quilt more 'fresh' looking but that could also be because I've got spring on the brain! lol

Eww! Don't add another random colored pinwheel. I LOVE the greens and you've already got all the work done...just finish it off so you can get on with your next quilt. It's perfect just the way it is. (Maybe I'm just in the mood for green because it's pre-St. Patrick's Day.) If you want a pop of color, do it with the border.

Beautiful!!! I've been itching to make a quilt lately and I think you've inspired me! I love the green. How about making the border a bright orange or pink?

Look at you, finishing all your WIPs! You are motivating me to dig mine out. I think an orange pinwheel near the bottom corner would be so cute! Maybe even an orange binding? That might be too much. I love the quilt and can't wait to see what you do with it!

I think throwing in just one pinwheel in a hot color would really make the quilt! The eye wants some sort of focal point. And I don't know why, but I immediately thought somewhere in the lower right quadrant, which I see was Kristi's thought, too. What fun! Thanks for sharing the design process with us, whatever you decide. It's YOUR quilt, after all!

Keep it green--its wonderful. You could put a randomly colored pinwheel on the back with part of the backing. I did that with a quilt I did and REALLY liked the effect. Made it kind of reversible.

I love that you're finishing this right before St. Patrick's day. Perfect. I really like the idea of a random color. I agree, not red. I also agree, lower right corner area. Can't wait to see it!

i dig the idea of taking one green square out and replacing it. red or pink, for sure. maybe somewhere towards the lower left?

Oh, I love the idea with the borders. And I think the idea with the red pinwheel is great, too. Just to be sure I would just make a red pinwheel and lay it on top of the quilt where you want it to be ... so you can see whether you like it before you rip everything apart. (And also you can simply try out where you want it to be.)

I like all these ideas, especially the flowers over top or an orange pinwheel - call me crazy, but I envision it centered in the upper right-hand quadrant.
If you haven't heard of them before, I can recommend King's Men Quilting Supply - http://www.kmquiltingsupply.com/ - not because I quilt, but because I know the owners! :)

I love the pinwheels, one of my favorite blocks. I think one orange pinwheel would look great towards the bottom. I don't know why. I just love orange and it would add a little pop and smile.

i liked the idea of keeping it green with a colored pinwheel on the back- fun idea!

I love the idea of a pop of color, orange specifically, either in a pinwheel or in the binding. Call me crazy, but what about a pieced orange binding? Or yellow?

Oooh! Or maybe one pinwheel and then also the binding?

I like it green! If you did one pinwheel, how would you control which side was top/bottom?

If you want to see how it would look, pull it into a paint program and color it in. That might help!

I LOVE the orange!! I think its totally perfect!
