The Worst Month of the Year

I hereby declare that January is officially The Worst Month of the Year.  Does anyone even LIKE January?  I mean, what does January have to show for itself?  Granted, some of my favorite people have birthdays in January (love you, Dad!)... but come on.  Around here, January is dark.  It's cold.  It's dark.  The soil is devoid of life.  There may be snow, but chances are it's all brown and nasty.  And it's dark.  Where is the sunlight??

I've been spending as much time as possible in my sewing room, which is the sunniest room in the house, obsessing working on my I-Spy quilt.  It's coming along nicely!  And my 25-blocks-per-week goal?  So far I've blown that one out of the water.  85 completed so far!!  And dozens and dozens more borders are already cut out!  I went through all my scrap bins that are sorted by color, and have already pressed and cut out as many borders from them as possible.  I have lots more scraps to go through (the unorganized ones), and plan to do that as soon as the ones that are already cut are sewn together.

All these hundreds of itty-bitty blocks are going to be made into a queen-size quilt for MY bed. When I was growing up, my parents' bed was an impromptu gathering place for hanging out and conversation. I want mine to be the same -- so I'm hoping that having an I-spy quilt on MY bed will encourage some fun and conversation!

I hope I can stick with my current pace and finish the thing -- sooner rather than later!

I think February is the worst month. The cold is just hanging on and everything looks dirty outside. January is a clean start to the year. About the only thing going for February is Valentine's Day. What's your favorite month?

I dislike both January & February, because it just feels so bitter cold. Valentine's Day is nice, but the only redeeming factor for February.

you're so funny! I love my sewing room too, it's nice and sunny! Now I just need to get my girls to agree with me and spend some time in there, :)

Don't hate me, but here in our parts of southern California, it's in the upper 70's today. We're having an especially nice winter so far. But come fire season, we'll wish we had more rain.

I'm really excited to see your finished quilt- I'm rooting for you!

Although I love the snow, I'm with in on the January hate. I woke up this morning and it was -50F! I'm not even sure what that is in celsius other than C-O-L-D. I can't wait for spring :)

I love this post-I'm joining your January revolt!! Its so sad taking down Christmas decorations, being cold, missing the sunshine and feeling like the next vacation isn't for ages. Boo to you January!

I guess it all depends which part of the US you live in. I hate August because its so darn HOT. January and February here in Southern California are not to bad!
It will be in the 70s all this week!

Oh, I like Jan. b/c of new beginnings all around. It seems that so many things are like "on hold" for the holidays just waiting to finish and then "the other life" starts again. I live in central CA, so bitter cold isn't something that lasts too long.
