Flashback Friday -- Grandma R's Quilt

Back in 2004 my husband's family had a reunion at Clear Lake in California, where my father-in-law's parents took him and his siblings every summer for vacation. It was a surprise for his parents to have us all show up while they were there for their (almost) 60th wedding anniversary.

In preparation, months earlier I started work on a quilt in commemoration of the event. I hand embroidered the names of all their children and their spouses, their children, and their children's children, as well as the year each person was born. I chose a simple pattern (Double Irish Chain) to border the name blocks.

Needless to say, Grandma and Grandpa were very surprised to have everyone show up, and Grandma absolutely loved the quilt!
