I'm at it again! I've been sorting through my I-Spy scraps to dig out little pieces for this Ticker Tape quilt (inspired by this one). This isn't the first time! My other (boy-themed) one can be found here.Yes, it's true, I save the most miniscule bits and pieces of my I-Spy fabrics if there is a visible object on it -- and this is the perfect project to use them in. I don't have an official tally, but when all is said and done there will be hundreds of scraps of I-Spies on this quilt -- each one from a different fabric!
I start by creating the quilt "sandwich" -- backing, batting, and white Kona on the front -- and pin-basting it together. Then I attach the scraps directly on top, which quilts it as I go. Looooooove!!
I can't wait to get this one finished up so I can give it to... well, it was going to be a secret, but if it's here I guess it's not. It's for my new sweet niece, born just a few weeks ago! I admit, it's heavy on the kitties. Hope little K-doll doesn't mind! :o)

This is an awesome idea! I've still got my I-spy squares from the swap before last & have been putting off using them. Some of the items are close to the edge, or have multiple "items" on the scrap, so this would be so much fun!
Are you attaching them by hand or machine?
I looooooove the fact that this one is quilted as you go. Holy time saver and any project that uses up little scraps is a go in my book. Your darling little niece is going to love it.

I made a lap quilt out of Amy Butler fabric and had enough scraps to make a ticker tape quilt. I pinned every square on. I was afraid that I would run out and not have enough so I pinned then all on. I started in the center and worked my way out. so when I did start running out it started to look like a sunburst. I will let you know how it turns out.
I picked up my i-spies from your sister on the day she came home from the hospital, I felt like a dork. I hope all is well.

did you use a fabric spray adhesive or fusible webbing to stabilize the scraps before stitching??? I too have a bucket full of i spy scraps - thanks for the idea! This is soooo cute!

I didn't stabilize them at all. I lay down two or three "squares" at a time, and just hold them in place as I sew around them -- avoiding fingers, of course! :o) It's fun and FAST!

will it possibly fray and fall apart from washings?

I wanted the edges of mine to fray -- I washed my first version five or six times after I had it completely put together, then checked to see if any squares were coming off. there were only three or four squares I needed to sew again with a bigger seam allowance. I think after that many washings it's pretty safe to assume all the squares are secure! :o)

It's hard to tell by the pics....how large are the scraps? A range is wat I'm looking for. 1" square? 2" x 4"? I might want to take this one on...lol!

They are all smaller than 4" square -- ranging all the way down to 1". Basically anything that has a visible image on it! :o)

Your I Spy quilts are fabulous! I've never seen a quilt put together with this method but it sure looks like a time saver.
I realize you host alot of I Spy swaps, any interest in joining another? I'm currently hosting one on my blog and still have spaces available.
