Storage Cube!

I found a very small storage cube dealy at a thrift store a couple months ago. It's pretty much too small to be useful, and is not my favorite color, but I bought it anyway -- so I could make my own larger, cuter version, of course!

Here's the one I made:
It isn't perfect, mind you, but I do love it! The fabric is a remnant I got at JoAnns a couple weeks ago for less than a dollar.

I love that it's collapsible, too -- although I'm not sure that's a very useful feature...

...It's fun, though! It folds up nice and flat!

What am I using my new storage cube for? I-Spy Block storage, of course!! Eight blocks fit inside just perfectly!

I could write up some instructions, if anyone's interested. I want to modify my method just a little bit, so I'll be making another one anyway.

Let me know if you want a tutorial!

Definately write a tutorial, this is a great idea!!! I am always looking for these in colors that match my kids' rooms and it is hard to find beyond the basic primary and pastel colors. It would be great to make a few in contrasting fabrics. Yours came out amazing.

Oh, this is sooooo cool! I really need to make a storage box for my little one (4 months old now) to put his toys into. I wanted to make a fabric one ... this way when he gets mobile enough to try to get his stuff he can "crawl into it" without hurting himself. That's at least what my daughter used to do at that age. So, yes - a tutorial would be AWESOME!!!

Ana Luisa said...

what can I say? yes, please, a tutorial! I could try my hand at making one, to store my cross stitching and another for yarn.
Thanks!

And the fabric is awesome!! I can't believe you found it for that price... I wish I could find some too for that price! =)
And as every forward comments: do you have a tutorial? Pleeeaaase share it ^^, we all need storage boxes (besides it is bendable!!).

I'd love a tutorial! It has to be so useful, especially to be able to collapse it!

Yes! Lol, look at that long list of comments. No pressure or anything, Care, but looks like you've really got to write up that tutorial. :)

Holy crap this is exactly what I need! I'm building a cubby unit for my stepsons, and they need these kinds of buckets. (I'm not supplying them with ammo for the inevitable war with plastic bins. Ouch!)

Yes please on the tutorial! I have some shelves that need baskets and I haven't been able to find the right dimensions in the store. Plus I don't want to pay 10 bucks a basket if I can avoid it...

Ammieloris said...

Oh, please, please! This is adorable. I have a couple of these, and they are very handy.

Yes to the tutorial question! Very cute and useful!

A tutorial would be great! I've been looking for these at the dollar store so I can corral baby boy's toys, but I haven't found any yet! I could love to make my own.

Holly U said...

Yes please! And if you could add a little advice on how to change the size, that would be helpful. I would like to make boxes that fit the space I have available.

Also, it occurs to me that you could cut cardboard to fit in between the layers for stiffness. Or I may try an old flexible plastic cutting board that's seen a better day, so that it could go through the laundry since I want to make this for my toddler...

Thanks!
