I-Spy Strip Quilt Progress

I've been ignoring a few "ought to finish" projects in favor of this one, and this is what I have so far:

Yes, I know it appears that the center is, well, off-center. It's not. Let's just say, WE'RE GOING WITH IT. :o) I do need some input on the next step, though....

I have enough I-Spy strips with white backgrounds to do a border. Shall I? I do think I need to have a white border before the binding... Does this count, or will I still need a solid white border beyond it? Or, do I skip the I-Spy strips with a white background and go straight to a solid white border? Or do I call it finished where it sits now? The current size is 40" x 56", sans the white background strips.

Help!

  1. I love the white background strips as the border. This idea would allow your quilt to truly live up to the I-spy name! And, I love the off-centeredness of it.

  2. It looks fantastic! I think it would look great as is w/ a solid colored binding. If you decide to do a border (which I don't think you need, only if you want to make it bigger), I'd go w/ solid white over the white I-spy strips. The solid white really makes those colors in the strips you've used pop. Awesome job - can't wait to see it completed!

  6. Looks good to me too! Do you have enough strips for another top as well? Cause if you do you could match the outer borders and have a matching set...just a thought.

  8. I say leave it the way it is with a solid binding...

  9. First, let me say that I have yet to finish my first quilt (although I'm getting close!). So I'm answering purely based on aesthetics and not as a seasoned quilter. I probably wouldn't favor a white border because there is already so much white in the center. The I Spy strips with the white backgrounds make it pretty busy. So, I guess I'm voting for a solid color border or no border at all.

  10. I must say it's different and interesting. That is what is so great about quilting--especially when you are using up your odds and ends.

  12. I love it, I would just run with it unless you had enough for another one. It looks great and I featured it on my facebook page for my blog (Land of the Misfit Toyz; Family, Crafts, Decorating).

  13. I say leave it and go with a white binding. I love the way it is turning out and the seeminly "off centeredness" gives it a very modern feel.

  14. The first photo is more beautiful than the determinant,
    Türkçe dilinden İngilizce diline çeviri
If this is a mixed pattern in colored frames are lost for the second time,
    or nearly so,
    or white frame structure,

  15. How are you binding it? If you're doing a scrappy binding with i-spy fabrics, I'd add a white border, but skip the white-backgrounded i-spy border. If you're doing a solid binding, I'd use just the white-backgrounded i-spy fabrics for the border. I probably wouldn't do both the solid white and the white-backgrounded i-spies side by side. Not enough definintion between the two to create a seperation.

  16. I like the first photo best without the white strips. I do love the wonkiness of the I-spy strips. Very clever.

  18. such a colorful and fun quilt!!! I love the white background i spy and i think you don't need anymore plain white. It would be super awesome if you did a dark scrappy binding next to the white i spy border. Such a fun use of your I spy scraps!!!

  19. I love it too! I think you won't regret it if you add the white border but I do like it the way it is!

  20. I love the i-spy quilt!!!! I love the off centeredness of it. I love how you are doing strips instead of squares...It will make the i-spy a little more challenging:) I am going a little left field but I personally think that a solid bright colored border would give the quilt a major *POP*
