I-Spy Scraps & A Quick Note

When cutting my 4" I-Spy squares, I end up with a strip of scrap fabric at least 1" wide by 20" long. Of course I have been saving those scraps -- I-Spy is like GOLD to me!

At the risk of revealing just how I-Spy obsessed I am (Who am I kidding?? You already know!!) -- here is a picture of my strips -- each one representing yardage I have purchased for my obsession. I think I've finally got enough scraps to create a quilt. After lining them up, they reach all the way across my living room!

The only question is how to arrange them. I could sort by color, or theme...

...but at this point I am really liking the randomness of its current arrangement.

Either way, it is FUN to look at all my scraps and think about how to finalize my quilt! YAY for scrap projects, and DOUBLE YAY for I-Spy scrap projects!!

Also... a quick note:
Right now we're going through a period of adjustment. The boys have started school, and JellyBean has decided to boycott naps. Between dropping off and picking up, a crabby toddler whose nap schedule I am trying to figure out, and still being elbow-deep in sewing room reorganization -- sewing and therefore blogging have taken a back burner. Thanks for sticking with me! I promise I will be TRULY back with more fun projects as soon as we get more settled in with our new schedule!

(Speaking of crabby toddlers -- I've got a sleep-deprived and therefore rage-filled toddler screaming at my feet. Gotta go!)

  2. Oh, I feel your pain...nap times were so PRECIOUS to me when my kids were babes!!

I think a totally stripey quilt would be so cool. Or! Try a Roman Stripe - alternated striped blocks arranged in a sort of basketweave pattern.

  3. Sorting through and rearranging the fabric is the best part about i-spy fabrics! Also, I feel your pain re: naps. My 2 year old refused to nap monday and again tuesday, and I thought for sure we had reached the end. But I have regained the nap for 3 days now, so fingers crossed. I know the day is coming, though!

  4. I love those scraps! I think I am pretty close to OCD when it comes to organizing ... I always have this urge to organize stuff by themes. Weird isn't it?
And regarding the schedule thing - wow, am I glad to read that I am not the only one trying to figure that out! Little one is not yet one year old - but his schedule is really odd right now. He used to take two naps - one in the morning one in the afternoon at pretty much the same times every day. It was nice - I knew when he was tired and when I could do stuff and when I couldn't. Right now it seems like he can't decide whether to keep going or whether to switch to one nap a day ... so he kinda sleeps whenever he feels like it - which often is unpredictable! *sigh* Really messes with the family schedule ...
Hoping this "phase" will be over soon ... :-)
    Wishing you luck with yours!

  5. Gotta love (or at least bend to) that toddler rage!

Very fun i-spy scraps. You should try some quilt as you go blocks with them!

  6. I never thought of using all the scraps together in one quilt. I did save them and was thinking of something on a much smaller scale, I am always so inspired by your awesome ideas! There is always tomorrow for projects, today is the best time for Jelly bean!

  10. I like them in a more random pattern. Seems more fitting for the I-Spy theme. Now I have yet another idea for quilting. I may never make up my mind.
And I hear you on the non-sleeping toddler thing. There are days were I pray for the teenage sleep all day thing to appear.
I did finally finish my I-Spy placemats. Here's the link if you'd like to check them out and I'll add them to the FLICKR group too!
