My mom is heading to Calgary, Alberta on a little road trip this week. She wants to hit some fabric stores, quilt shops, and thrift stores while she's there.
Anyone in Calgary have suggestions for places she SHOULD NOT MISS?

I'm heading AWAY from Calgary this week to hit up such stores. Calgary, sadly, lacks greatly in the fabric store area. Many great little shops have closed their doors over the last few years. I'm interested to see if anyone else has any knowledge.
ReplyDeleteAddie's Quilt store in Cochrane--just west of Calgary, and a couple in Olds--north of calgary. Not much in Calgary though. Unless someone else has any ideas??
ReplyDeleteBe sure to hit the Value Village stores. They usually have some great buys on fabric and notions. I've picked up 6 meter pieces of cotton for quilt backing for $3.00 on a few occassions. Don't forget the pillow cases for a thrifty way to pick up almost a yard and often times you can find brand new cases in great colours and designs!
ReplyDeleteGood luck and have a safe journey,
Carolyn
If she's driving to Calgary from the States, then she'll be driving through Lethbridge, 2 1/2 hours south of Calgary and there's an amazing quilt store called Fabric Addict, right on the main north/south street in Lethbridge (they have a website if you want the address). I also really like the quilt store in Canmore, Sugar Pine Company, but that's about an hour west of Calgary, right beside Banff.
ReplyDeleteI'm in Airdrie which is 10 min north of Calgary and there is a cute quilt ship here called Material Girls and they specialize in civil war/reproduction and country/prairie-stule fabrics. They are at 129 Bowers St. I'm not familiar with Calgary quilt shops, but there is Along Came Quilting at unit #12, 1220 - 59 Ave SE. and there is Galleria Inglewood with a quilt display of more then 350 local and Canadian artisans. It's at 907 - 9 ave SE. There are other shops in towns just outside of Calgary like Okotoks, High River and Cochrane.
ReplyDeleteI'm a Calgary lifer and can attest that, sadly, there really isn`t much in Calgary anymore, besides Fabricland (and I still love their stuff). There is however a great little shop in Okotoks (About 10 minute south of Calgary)called Rumpled Quilt Skins and to help preview it, here is the link to their site www.rumpledquiltskins.ca. Hope you have a blast while you are here!
ReplyDeleteFreckles on Northmount Drive! My mom used to work there!
