Ever since I first saw Amanda Jean's Ticker Tape Quilt last September, I have been DYING to give it a go. After three straight days of Strep last week, spending much of my time lying on the couch and watching the littles play (none of them have caught it, luckily!), I neeeeeded a good project to get me up and get my sewjo back.
Enter the I-Spy version of the Ticker Tape quilt!

I've been saving oodles of I-Spy scraps ever since I first started collecting I-Spies years ago. Like many other quilters, I just can't get rid of even the tiniest little scraps, especially if they are super cute ones. This was the PERFECT project to make a dent in my overflowing I-Spy scrap bin!
The finished quilt is approximately 36"x45". I used all fabrics I had on hand -- with the exception of the binding, for which I had to go buy this morning. (Only 1/4 yard, though!)
I pin-basted my quilt sandwich FIRST -- white on front, a print on back, and batting sandwiched in between. The raw edge applique and quilting were done simultaneously when I free-motion stitched each scrap in place.
That backing fabric is perfect -- I'm so glad I picked it up on sale a few months back, even though I had nothing in mind for it. This quilt ended up fairly boyish, but you can bet I'll be making a girly version sometime in the near future.
I've got the quilt in the wash now, and can't wait to see those raw edges all frayed up and texture-y!

Wow I love it. I need to make me one
ReplyDeleteI like it too! I'm going to have to check that out. May have to try this... Thanks, Care for adding more to my to do list!! haha
ReplyDeleteDo you sell these? I love it!
ReplyDeleteHa ha ha, "sewjo" - I think you need to buy that domain name. :) This is a super cool quilt, and nice assembly technique.
ReplyDeleteWow! I like that you just stitched them down on a single background piece of fabric, right? I can't wait to try that!
ReplyDeleteI love it! I bought that same fabric! I love the red and aqua...yummy! I hope everyone is all better now too.
ReplyDeleteLoved it!!! So beautiful and unique!! I´d love to have one for myself!!!
ReplyDeleteThat is the most amazing quilt! I love all of your I spy pieces. You have inspired me to do the same...so maybe I can make one in a few years!!! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteAb-sew-lutely gorgeous! I love it!!!
ReplyDeleteOooh! I swoon! Fabulous! I'm still trying to wrap my head around how you did that. Amazing. If only I had more scraps! I can't wait to see what it looks like with those fringe edges.
ReplyDeleteso so cute Care! I love it, makes me want to make one now. :)
ReplyDeleteIt is soooo fantastic!!! I love it! Way to use up those little scraps.
ReplyDeleteSO cute! It looks wonderful. I'd love to try that out some time!
ReplyDeleteit looks amazing!!!! adding this to the to do list!
ReplyDeleteThat is absolutely the most beautiful "I-Spy" quilt I've seen!
ReplyDeleteI love this version! It looks so easy! I guess I'll have to start collecting scraps now!
ReplyDeleteoh my! That seems way too simple not to try! Thanks Care!
ReplyDeleteLOVE it .... as everything you do!
ReplyDeleteLoved the Ticker Tape one too .... still haven't made myself one ...
I really like how this quilt turned out! I think it's the random size of the pieces, along with the randomness in which they're placed, and yet it still looks very "organized" :)
ReplyDeleteOooo, I think I love this one even more than the traditional version. Oh, so hard to decide.
ReplyDeleteWOW!
ReplyDeleteOh my, I LOVE this!!!! You are killing me - it seams like everytime I get to check out your blog there is another favourite quilt to find! How will I ever be able to decide what I like best if you keep topping each one with another one that I love even more?!
ReplyDeleteI love this so much ... I think it is even cuter than the regular I spy quilts. I am just wondering - do you stitch it on with a zigzag or regular stitch? Will it hold up well? I know that it's supposed to fray a bit ... but I would be totally afraid that it would fall apart at some point?
I love this!!! I wish I wouldn't have given my scraps to my cute niece a few weeks ago, but I do have to say, it was adorable to watch her try to decide what she wanted to do with them! Maybe I'll send this blog post to her mom and see if she can come up with maybe a doll quilt or something using this technique!
ReplyDeleteI love how small some of the squares are =)
ReplyDeleteYou are amazing. This is my fav yet!
ReplyDeleteI love this idea, I may have to do this soon!
ReplyDeleteI think I could manage this sort of quilt! I have tons of scraps too . . .
ReplyDeleteThat's adorable.
ReplyDeleteI'm not ready for a new quilt yet, though! LOL
I was thinking about this quilt all day long ... (Is this normal behaviour?) I think this way of making a quilt would be perfect for making a memory quilt - you know use up all those shirts or baby clothes. I remember when I started gathering fabric for my son's quilt that I was shocked - almost all the fabric I wanted to use (like baby clothes) were jersey. I am not sure whether you actually could make a patchwork quilt out of jersey ... but I did not dare try. But this method must work! And it even should be quite save cause jersey should not unravel ...
ReplyDeleteI hope I am not missing something... I am SO going to do this!!! (If I ever finish the two quilts I gotta make first ...)
:-)
Neat way of incorporating two ideas! I love it!
ReplyDeleteI love it! What a great idea.
ReplyDeleteSandwhich?
ReplyDeletelove it, i see lots of really cute fabrics. what a great i-spy ticker tape quilt.
