I know, I know... It's early to be thinking about Valentine's Day...
But I am anyway!
I am so ready. Bring on the PINK! :o)
I threw together this quilt over the weekend, and then kept forgetting to take pictures in the daylight hours. But here it is!But I am anyway!
I am so ready. Bring on the PINK! :o)
I started by purchasing that super soft fuzzy backing (Ultra Cuddle from JoAnn's). Then I went home and started yanking pink fabrics out of my fabric closet! I tossed candidates on the floor and then arranged and chose which ones would work. I cut a zillion tumblers and arranged again.
(Sideways view, plus my toes!)
I came up with an arrangement I liked, sewed them together, pinned it, and quilted it. I attached the binding on Sunday night, but didn't hand finish it until Wednesday, with Susan's help, because I got distracted by other pink projects -- which I will show you soon!
I love how it turned out! It is so super comfy cozy squidgy soft -- and is definitely that bright, happy pop of color I was looking for. And all STASH fabrics with the exception of the backing! YAY for stashbusting!!

What a great quilt! I'm new to quilting but I love the tumbler pattern, did you use a ruler or template?
ReplyDeleteSo pretty, and yes, it's perfect for Valentine's Day!
ReplyDeletelovemyabbie,
ReplyDeleteI just used a ruler! Simple! I hope you'll give it a try!
Care.
You did it during ONE weekend? *eeek*
ReplyDeleteI'm speechless.... to me it seems like a lot of sewing in there ....
It's so loevly and sooooo pink!
I love it! And the cuddle fabric on the back is icing on the cake. I think I'm envious of your stash! Great colours.
ReplyDeleteDid you use batting or just the two fabrics. That is where I am stuck on quilting right. (But I'm so excited to try free motion quilting on a Christmas quilt--late I know, but i've got the fabric and it'll be done).
ReplyDeleteHi Care! I have a question. When you use a lofty fabric for the backing, like minky or fluffy fleece, do you still use batting? How hard is it to pin baste and push the fluffy pile through the sewing machine? Just wondering.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, you made that in one weekend? It looks amazing! I love the cuddle soft backing fabric! I think that's why I shy away from making quilts- I like my blankets to be soft and cuddly and cozy, maybe this type of fabric is the answer :)
ReplyDeleteSo bright and pretty!
ReplyDeleteyou have a great eye for putting colors/patterns together. i love this quilt! very impressed that it was done over one weekend.
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking of using this as a backing to a quilt I'm working on for my husband. It's a D9P using flannel. It's a queen size, so I might opt for a queen sized sheet to save $, but this stuff looks SOOOOO cozy.
ReplyDeletePS. I'm in I-Spy withdrawal.
ReplyDeleteI just got an accu-cut tumbler die and think I need to make one of these for Valentine's Day!
ReplyDeleteLove it!
Angela Pea,
ReplyDeleteI DO still use batting, although I have seen quilts where they did not. I prefer the feel with the batting in there!
Pin basting was no problem. You have to be careful, though, because the Ultra Cuddle is stretchy -- so just be sure not to stretch it as you go.
Quilting was definitely a little more of a workout than usual. But really not a big deal. I definitely would NOT try quilting a larger (even full size is too big for me) quilt on a standard machine if you use an Ultra Cuddle backing. Haven't tried it, but the thought makes my arms hurt! :o)
Care.
Question for you...do you pre-wash your fabrics, or do you wash your entire quilt after it's completed...I finished a quilt (my first totally complete) then washed it, and some parts around the binding had tore. I was just wondering what my cause that and if there was anything I could do to prevent it next time?
ReplyDeleteThis quilt is so killer-diller-from-maniller. I just spent about 45 minutes going back through my blogs to find it again from earlier in the day.
ReplyDeleteGreat work! Do you mind sharing the type of ruler you used? I have been looking for templates and the only one I found was for the AccuQuilt Go and I don't think I'm shucking out the bucks for that guy.
I would like to make one and knowing how to cut the blocks (shape) would be super helpful. Thanks for sharing this beautiful quilt.
Molly
I love how you say you just threw this together over the weekend. It is beautiful. I LOVE all the pink. Did you hear that Pantone has picked a pink as this year's "official" color. You're ahead of the curve. (;0)
ReplyDeleteUltra cuddle is definitely yummy! My oldest would like me to make her a new bean bag cover with it, but the stretch scares me (not to mention the "making up the pattern as I go")
ReplyDeleteMay I one day:
1) Be able to actually call myself "a quilter"
2) Be able to "throw" things together that end up looking like this
3) Have a large enough stash of fabric to design whole quilts from
:)
So cute! I just love that you can throw this together on a weekend. Maybe someday I will get there!
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to comment about your toes. :) I finished my first quilt (different pattern than the one in your tutorial, but I used a lot of your tutorial so thanks!), and I am 6 months pregnant. I was taking pictures and kept getting my belly in the way. What do ya do? At least your toes are cute. :)
Love it!
ReplyDeleteLooks so warm and comfy, I am loving the tumbler pattern and have that on my list of quilts to try. Your shade choice is so fun!
ReplyDeleteIt's so pretty!! Love the cuddle fabric on the back too.
ReplyDeletethis is beautiful care, and great for using your stash. :) love valentine's day so much!
ReplyDeleteThere is a monochromatic quilt challenge floating around right now. You should think about entering this one. Mighten you do a tumbler quilt quilt along? You are my crutch! Hands down, the best crafting blog on the net. I don't feel like you're trying to sell me anything, that you just want me to enjoy crafting. That's why I keep coming back anyway.
ReplyDeleteWOW! I am not a huge fan of pink ... but this even I would allow in my home! VERY beautiful!!!
