Pirates!!

It's Buzz's birthday today -- FIVE! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!! -- and we are doing Everything Pirate! Yesterday we got out my pile of random fabrics to create some pirate ensembles....

Many pirate-y options!

While JellyBean was sleeping I cranked out some 15-minute pirate pants using some pajama pants to create a pattern. I also made some sashes, a piratey doo-rag, and a flag.

Ta-Da! Pirates!
(I admit -- that doo-rag is my favorite!)

I foresee plenty more piratey goodness to come at OUR house.... But for now -- we're off to have some birthday FUN!

Gifts for Sickies -- L's Quilt

This week I've been working on a quilt for a friend's baby who has been in the hospital. I started Tuesday night, and finished last night. Susan and I laid it out together yesterday afternoon, and tried three or four layouts. They are such busy fabrics; this layout seemed to calm it down a little -- or at the very least give a little order to it!

The pattern is Disappearing Nine Patch. It's such a versatile pattern! There are so many ways to arrange the blocks for very different looks!

For the backing I chose a nice, sunny yellow, and I love the wide pink binding.

I hope it helps to cheer up both baby and mama!

Another ABC I-Spy Book!

When it came time to pay for my fabulous new bag,
Jen suggested that we "do tradesies" instead. FABULOUS idea! She picked an ABC I-Spy book for her adorable daughter Avery!

I modified my original version, adding a velcro tab closure and handle. I'm very happy with how it turned out -- and I love that alphabet fabric for the cover!

Airplane, Butterflies, Clouds, Ducks, Elephant, Fish, Guitars, Hands, Ice cream cone, Jigsaw puzzle, Kites, Ladybugs, Moon, Numbers, Ostrich, Penguins, Quilt, Rabbits, Stars, Tennis rackets/balls, Unicorn, Volleyball, Watermelon, eXit sign, Yarn, Zebras!

I love the handle!!

It was so much fun making this one, I think maaaaaaaybe I could make a few more! :o)
