I've been doing a little spring cleaning around the house. It's nice to get rid of some dust and cobwebs, and wash the windows! Next up it's about time for me to do some spring cleaning in my sewing room -- but not the room itself (which is actually much cleaner NOW than it's been in ages). I'm talking about the closet, and all the many WIPs that have accumulated. I've made a decision -- I must clear out two WIP quilts before I can start a new one.
Problem is, there's a reason they aren't done. I'm stuck! I need help!

(Pardon the wrinkles -- it's been folded up for quite some time!)
I pieced together this little quilt top using circles of only Amy Butler fabrics -- mainly from her Charm line.
I ~love~ each fabric -- they all make me so happy! But now that I've gotten to this point, I'm not sure what to do next. How many borders? What color? A pieced border? Solid? An Amy Butler print? HELP!!
**oops -- forgot to add, I used my circle applique technique for the circles!**

love the circles! hmmmm..I think a simple print border would look cute! and....Nope I never got any of your emails! they must go to my spam folder...yikes! Sorry about that. Try sending your address again and I will put your email address in my address folder. Thanks!

I love this! What a great way to show off all those great fabrics. I'm for one border--maybe one of those blue/greens or yellows. If you want to piece something to include more of the fabrics, what about piecing the binding?
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if I fully understand your dilema but what about 2 borders? one in the main fabric and other in one of the circles? If they overlaped I think they look nice!
ReplyDelete(by the way, it looks very pretty)
Love all the circles or large polka dots! I am with Lauren on this one, go with a solid bold color border and then use all of the fun fabrics in the binding;) Maybe your border and backing could match, but of course whatever you come up with will be wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI think two solid borders of Amy Butler fabric-the inner border thinner and the outer border thicker-would look great.
ReplyDeleteI love the circle design!
in a effort to get your WIP's done...i would go easy on yourself and do one border, solid, in a amy butler print. it will definitely look amazing because it already does.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Lauren as well. And a pieced binding is always cute. What a lovely quilt! How will you quilt this one?
ReplyDeleteI think keep it simple and elegant and do the border and binding in the same fabric as the backing. This way the Amy Butler fabrics remain the feature!
ReplyDeleteVery cute! I want to make a quilt like this too!! I would do some solid borders, pieced or singles to make the circles pop more..It will look good no matter what you do!
ReplyDeletewhy not be wild and crazy and have NO border and only binding?
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this quilt! I would love to see how you made it..ya know how you got the circles!
ReplyDeleteHi Brandi!
ReplyDeleteI used my circle applique technique, which you can find here: http://obsessivelystitching.blogspot.com/2009/07/simple-circle-applique-tutorial.html -- I highly recommend it, even if you've never done applique. It's FUN!! :o)
Thanks!
Care.
I think you should make a patchwork border in the same fabrics that you made the circles from - but that's me. I LOVE the circles!!!
ReplyDeletemaybe a solid and a print, love the circles though!
ReplyDeleteMy first instinct is a pieced, stacked coin border ... wide, with scraps from the circles ... do you still have these?
ReplyDeleteWhat are your plans with the quilting?
pretty! a nice way to "remember" past fabric!
ReplyDeleteI am definitely no quilt expert, but I like Kelly's idea of going with NO border. I also like the idea of doing a pieced binding using all the fabrics used for the circles. This would be very modern and chic :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the circles! It looks really really great!
ReplyDeleteAnd sorry, but I am not going to recommend anything regarding the borders. I am SO bad at picturing what something will look like in the end ... and I read the comments that were already given. I guess you have all options in those comments ;-) so I do not want to add to the confusion! :-) I do however believe no matter what you do it will look awesome!
And thanks so much for linking to your circle applique technique!!!! I was looking for something like this for a while already. I already looked at so many quilt designs - in order to figure out what I want my I spy quilt to look like - and LOVED ones with circles. But could not yet figure out how to do it! So now I know!!!! :-) THANK YOU!
I love it. I think whatever you do, you'd have a hard time making a mistake. It's so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI vote for 1 simple wide border in a coordinating print. Using the same as the backing, with a solid binding. Keeping it simple to not take away from the adorable circles! I love it!
ReplyDeleteI too, can't wait to see it. And I think I'll abstain from advise. You are the master!
ReplyDeleteWell, I wouldn't claim to be an expert at all, but I think I'd go with a nice solid border binding, or perhaps a ruffled edging in a solid color.
ReplyDeleteLove it!
I love this. I don't have any ideas but I can't wait to see what you do. Just gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI love your quilt, as a matter of fact I am making one almost identical. I have already made it to the next step. If you want to take a look I just posted a current pic of it on my blog www.widgetworm.blogspot.com I like the way its turning out but I wish I had all of the great ideas people have posted because I might have taken L Johnsons advice and done a solid border and then the bits and pieces for the binding. Good luck, I cant wait to see it done.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Leslie on this, it'll make all those fun prints stand out. It looks great with the white, but I think a dark color; brown, navy blue or even a dark olivey green or plum purple would be awesome! :)
