Black Apple Doll

I have succumbed. I made one of the ever-famous Black Apple Dolls from the (free!) pattern by genius crafter/artist Emily Martin.

Here she is:

I've been hoarding these fabrics for a while, but decided I should use some of it to make this girl for my niece C's birthday.

Then I decided she needed a skirt!

And hairbows!
I think most people paint faces on them, but I decided to stick with what I know and sew it on.

I had so much fun making her that I just HAD to make another -- the very same night! And of course I had to make it much more complicated. She's not quite finished, but here she is anyway:

I gave her a perma-dress.

I did a little pleating detail on the bodice, which still needs buttons.

And I gave her ruffle-bum tights! Her dress is definitely a little more traditional than what most black apple dolls wear, but I think I like her.

......I may or may not have started a few more of these girls, too.....

those are tooo cute! I love the fabric choices and how you did their hair and accessories! I can't wait to make accessories for the ones I made, maybe you just gave me a little push to get me going...thanks.

I just made one of these too (on Saturday). I was surprised how relatively easy they were (and even more shocked that the creator was giving away the pattern for FREE!!!). They're pretty addicting. Once I am done with some other projects, I am going to town making some of these. I kind of want to test out making a "boy" doll (like a pirate or something), and then I thought of holiday decorations: elf, cupid, witch.
(I forgot how I found you blog, by the way....I've been reading it for a while, I'm not a big commenting person). I LOVE that you stitched the face detail instead of just painting it on.

Love the pigtails! I've been meaning to make my little girl one for Christmas, but I don't think it's going to get done in time... Maybe I'll just do it after Christmas for no reason at all. They are super cute!

I've had this cute doll on my list to make for Christmas this year for a while now. I'm glad I didn't until I saw yours, I love the ponytails and the ruffle bums.I think I will have to use some of your ideas to add to my own.

I love your versions! I made one a few months back, but didn't get creative with her - I may just have to make some more! I love the color combos in the first one and the ruffle bloomers in the next are too die for.

By the way, I got the ABC book in the mail today and did a blog post on it. It's so great! Thanks again, we love it!

I'm "succumbing" this year too - I'm making them for my daughter & three nieces. They're not quite done yet. I'm loving what you did with the "perma-dress" and the pigtails. So cute! I don't have the patience for hand-stitching so I used a fabric marker. Hopefully I don't regret that.

That is adorable! I've been trying (key word trying there) to make my daughter a doll for Christmas, so far I have a head with one eye on it. I think I might have to try to make one of these dolls. It looks so much easier than the one I'm trying to tackle :) SOOOO CUTE

Love how these turned out :) I have three sitting in the craft room, and 3 more to make...they're addictive! I love how easy it is to personalize them to look like all my little girls :)

I love the pigtails!

I love this! I recently made a few of these, too. How did you attach the skirt to the dress?
