Yep. It's official. I'm obsessed.
Here's a photo of some of my 400+ 2 1/2" I-Spy squares. I don't think it's getting COMPLETELY ridiculous yet -- but it's close!
Remember these? I've decided to ditch them. Too complicated. The quilt will NEVER be done if that's my plan.
So now I just have to decide on a new plan. If I go with 400 squares, that would be 20 squares by 20 squares -- and with nothing in between, it would be 40"x40". But with nothing in between, that is FAR too busy! The squares have got to have something in between so no one gets dizzy looking at it, and so they don't just blend together. And I want it bigger -- big enough for MY bed!
Bigger...... Maybe I need MORE -- MORE!!!
Well. I need to make a plan and start sewing the thing, so it doesn't sit in a box for another four years!
Here is the I-Spy Quilt my sister-in-law (and very good friend!) Susan made during all my obsessing (also with 2 1/2" cut squares):
I love it! Her choice of fabric for the alternate squares is just perfect. But here's the kicker -- I totally talked her into adding MORE -- to the back! She's using this circle applique technique, adding one at a time when she finds fabrics that she just can't resist -- which is quite often! We are absolutely ENABLERS to each other!! Obsessions are so much more fun when you can share them with someone!

I love this quilt! I haven't gotten into quilting too much yet..it's one of those things I'm a little afraid to start because I am already addicted to fabric and I think it would send me into a quilting addiction!

I love I-spy quilts. More to the point, I love collecting I Spy fabric! I'd kindly disagree that it would be too busy with no separating fabric. Personally, I LOVE that busy look. You can see the one I made for my son here: http://infantbibliophile.blogspot.com/search/label/I%20Spy. I used 4 inch squares (if I recall), though. I also collected 2 or 2 1/2 inch squares for a border, but I didn't end up using them (yet). I also ran an online I Spy swap to get many of the fabrics for that quilt. It was so much fun. Being the host is great because you get to see everyone's fabric as it comes in rather than just your own.
I just voted. So far the sizes are even.
My dd loves to play I-spy. Even though I quilt I had not heard of an I-spy quilt until very recently. I want to make one now, but I really don't know where to start as to collecting fabrics so a swap would be right up my alley. I would love to participate,but would need some guidelines in selecting fabrics.
How about using some solids and muslin to make puss in the corner blocks? It would add size and be pretty simple to make--strip piecing would be even faster!
